Donate now to support FDCs COVID 19 Food Security Fund

In response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19 FDC has created a COVID-19 Food Security Fund. We need your support. Your donation will help FDC alleviate the food insecurities many Flatbush families are facing daily.

Eight months ago, at this time of the morning, children were in school, people were commuting to work, coffee shops were bustling, and families were going about their daily lives. Never did we imagine that in a few months’ time, some of our neighbors would be choosing between paying rent or putting food on their table.

Our goal is to ensure Flatbush families in need have food on their table.

It started simply, an FDC after school counselor was providing homework help to a second grader. During the virtual session, the counselor found out that the mother, the head of household, was sick at home, and unable to get out for food. The counselor called their supervisor, who contacted a local church for food donations. The next day, our after school director went to the food pantry for donations and delivered food to this family.

Currently, FDC connects families with volunteers who conduct shopping for our frail and elderly neighbors. We provide a food pantry at the Glenwood Houses Community Center, a NYCHA facility in East Flatbush. We provide food stipends to local families, and sponsor food trucks and partner organizations who provide free hot meals. We connect families with resources throughout the community. But we can do so much more.

With your help, we can contimue to provide precooked meals for families when heads of household are unable to themselves. We can provide grocery deliveries for homebound and immune compromised neighbors, as well as adding an additional day to the Glenwood Houses food pantry.

Time and time again, you our staunch supporters, have stepped up to meet the needs of our community. And we ask you once again, today, to help us support families in need throughout the greater Flatbush community.
